How it works

01

Select a still WebP image.

02

Generate a PNG at the same dimensions, keeping transparent regions.

03

Inspect the preview and size comparison, then download the PNG copy.

Make a PNG for editing or compatibility

PNG can be useful when a graphics workflow accepts PNG but does not accept WebP, or when you want a lossless file for the decoded image pixels. This converter preserves the source width and height.

The browser decodes the WebP and encodes a new PNG. It creates actual PNG data, so the output can be used where changing the filename extension alone would not work.

Transparency is preserved

Both WebP and PNG can represent transparent and partly transparent pixels. This conversion keeps those regions instead of flattening them over a solid background.

The preview may show a background behind transparent areas to make them visible. That preview surface is not painted into the downloaded PNG. If an opaque background is required instead, WebP to JPG offers a background-color choice.

Lossless output does not repair a lossy source

PNG does not add a JPEG-style lossy encoding step to the decoded pixels. However, a WebP that was created with lossy compression may already contain missing detail or artifacts.

Those earlier changes cannot be reversed by converting to PNG. “Lossless” describes how the new PNG stores its pixel data, not a recovery of the image that existed before the WebP was made.

A larger PNG can be expected

PNG and WebP use different compression methods. A detailed photographic WebP can grow substantially when saved as PNG. The tool shows the real result size so you can decide whether the format change is worthwhile.

There is no PNG quality slider because the browser does not offer the same quality trade-off for PNG encoding. The file stays local during processing, and a separate copy is created for download.

Frequently asked questions

Will transparent pixels remain transparent?

Yes. PNG supports transparency, so the tool retains transparent regions from a supported still WebP.

Does PNG restore quality lost in WebP?

No. It stores the decoded pixels losslessly, but does not reconstruct detail discarded before conversion.

Why is there no quality slider?

PNG uses lossless encoding. The browser’s PNG encoder does not expose the JPEG/WebP quality control used by the other converters.

Why is the PNG much bigger?

PNG may require more bytes to represent the same decoded photograph. Choose it for compatibility or workflow needs, not a guaranteed size reduction.
