How it works
Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
Move and resize the selection. Use Free, 1:1, 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9 to set its proportions.
Create the crop and check the resulting image before downloading.
Crop the frame, keep the subject
Cropping removes pixels outside a selected rectangle. It is useful for cleaning up an edge, making a subject more prominent or changing the balance of a photograph. The original file on your device stays unchanged.
Leave enough space around the subject for the image’s final use. A very tight crop can remove context, and a small selection will contain fewer pixels than the original photo.
Choose a shape that fits
Free lets you choose the width and height independently. A 1:1 crop is square; 4:3 and 3:2 are common photographic proportions; 16:9 makes a wide frame.
An aspect ratio describes shape, not resolution. A 1600 × 900 image and an 800 × 450 image are both 16:9. Crop first to choose the composition, then use Resize Image if you need specific final dimensions.
Use the interactive selection
Move the selection inside the image and adjust its handles to choose the area to keep. Touch interaction supports the same basic selection on a mobile screen. The source preview is fitted to the available space, while the crop is calculated in image pixels.
Check the generated preview before downloading, especially near a person’s face, text or a narrow border. The rectangular crop does not perform perspective correction, subject detection or background removal.
Understand the new file
A crop is exported in the original format. PNG and WebP can preserve transparency within the selected region. JPG and WebP are encoded again at the selected quality, so file size depends on more than the amount removed.
Re-encoding does not copy the source file’s metadata exactly. Your selected image is processed locally in browser memory and is not uploaded to a 4ool server.
Frequently asked questions
Does cropping stretch the image?
No. It selects a rectangular area from the source. Pixels outside that area are excluded, while the selected content keeps its proportions.
Does 16:9 mean a specific output resolution?
No. It fixes the proportion of width to height. The actual dimensions depend on how large an area you select.
Can I crop on a phone?
Yes. The selection supports touch, and you can choose a file through the normal mobile file picker.
Can I undo the downloaded crop later?
The downloaded crop does not contain the excluded pixels. Keep your original image if you may want to choose another composition.
