How it works
Select an image and review the metadata detected in the source.
Create a fresh image from its decoded pixels. Adjust JPG or WebP quality if needed.
Review the output metadata check and download the new copy.
A new file from the visible image
Instead of modifying the original bytes in place, this tool decodes the image and encodes a new file. Source EXIF fields such as camera details, capture settings and GPS coordinates are not intentionally copied into the output.
The original file stays on your device unchanged. The downloaded copy receives a different filename so you can keep both versions and compare them.
Orientation belongs in the pixels
Some cameras store a photograph sideways and use an EXIF orientation tag to tell viewers how to display it. Simply deleting that tag can make the photo appear rotated.
The browser decode applies the supported orientation before the fresh file is created. Check the preview and downloaded result, especially for an original phone photo. Unusual or corrupt metadata can behave differently across browsers.
What the result check means
The generated file is inspected again with the metadata reader. The interface reports whether readable metadata remains instead of assuming that re-encoding is sufficient.
This check covers the fields supported by the reader. It is not a forensic guarantee that every possible identifying detail is absent. Browsers may write basic technical information needed to describe the new image. A visible street sign, document or face also remains part of the pixels.
Re-encoding changes the file
JPG and WebP output is encoded at the selected quality and may look slightly different from the source. PNG preserves the decoded pixels losslessly, but its file size may still change. Embedded source profiles and metadata are not retained as an exact copy.
Use the generated preview and size comparison to decide whether the result fits your needs. Both the selected image and the metadata inspection remain local to your browser; the tool does not upload them to 4ool servers.
Frequently asked questions
Does this overwrite my original photo?
No. The tool creates a separate downloadable file with a metadata-removal suffix. Your original remains unchanged.
Will the picture look exactly the same?
The composition and supported visual orientation are retained, but JPG and WebP are re-encoded and may lose some detail. Browser color handling can also affect the result.
How do I know EXIF was removed?
The tool reads the generated file again and reports whether supported metadata is detected. This is a practical check, not a guarantee about every possible proprietary field.
Does removing EXIF remove visible personal information?
No. It does not redact faces, text, addresses or other information visible in the image. Review the pixels before sharing.
