How it works

01

Select a JPG or JPEG image.

02

Choose a WebP quality setting and create a result.

03

Inspect the image and actual size change, then download the WebP.

A different format for web delivery

WebP is an image format used for web graphics and photographs. This converter creates a still WebP from the decoded JPG, keeping the original pixel dimensions.

A WebP can be smaller than a JPG at a visually acceptable quality, but that is not guaranteed for every image. The source may already be well compressed, and browser encoders make different trade-offs. Use the reported byte sizes instead of assuming a fixed saving.

Choose quality by looking at the image

The quality slider controls the requested encoding quality of the new WebP. Lower values generally reduce file size while removing detail. Higher values generally retain more detail and use more bytes.

Pay particular attention to text, patterned fabrics and edges against flat colors. A result that looks fine as a small thumbnail can look different when opened at full size. Existing JPEG artifacts do not disappear during conversion.

Format is only part of optimization

An image that is much wider than its intended display area may still be unnecessarily large after conversion. Resize the source to useful dimensions, then compare format and quality choices.

Do not repeatedly convert an already lossy copy to chase a smaller number. Keep the original and compare a few outputs from it. The smallest result is not always the best choice if it makes the image difficult to read.

When keeping JPG is useful

Check the application or service that will receive your file. Some document workflows, older software or upload forms may require JPG even when WebP works in your browser.

This tool performs conversion locally and creates a new file for download. It does not upload images to 4ool servers, and it does not preserve all source metadata or restore detail lost from the original JPG.

Frequently asked questions

Will WebP always be smaller?

No. The result depends on the source, dimensions, selected quality and browser encoder. The tool shows the actual result, including any increase.

Does the quality percentage match JPEG quality exactly?

No. Different formats and encoders interpret quality differently. Compare the visible result instead of treating the number as a universal scale.

Are my image dimensions changed?

No. Conversion keeps the source width and height. Use Resize Image separately to reduce the dimensions.

Why might I still need a JPG?

The place you are uploading or opening the image may require JPEG. Check the destination’s accepted formats before replacing your source file.
