How it works
Select one still WebP image.
Choose JPG quality and a background color for any transparency.
Create the JPG, check the preview and size, then download.
When a workflow asks for JPG
You may have a WebP image that opens in a browser but is rejected by a document editor, an upload form or another application. Converting creates an actual JPEG file rather than simply renaming the extension.
The source width and height are retained. This conversion is intended for still images; animated image conversion is outside the MVP.
Choose what replaces transparency
WebP can store transparent pixels, while JPEG cannot. The converter composites the decoded image over white by default, or over black or a custom color you choose.
Semitransparent shadows and edges will blend into that background permanently. Check the result carefully if the image is a logo, cutout or graphic originally designed to sit on different backgrounds.
A new lossy encode
JPEG output uses the selected quality setting. If the WebP was already lossy, the new JPG may add another layer of compression changes. Raising JPEG quality cannot restore missing detail from the WebP.
File size can increase even at a moderate setting. Compatibility may still be a useful reason to convert, but the actual output comparison is more meaningful than a promise that one format is always smaller.
Choose PNG when transparency matters
If the receiving application accepts PNG and the image needs transparent areas, WebP to PNG avoids flattening them onto a solid color. PNG can also avoid introducing a further lossy encoding step after decoding.
For JPG conversion, processing stays inside your browser and the selected file is not uploaded to 4ool servers. The downloaded image is a new copy; keep the original WebP for future use.
Frequently asked questions
Can I just rename .webp to .jpg?
No. That changes the filename but leaves WebP data inside. This tool decodes the source and writes an actual JPEG file.
Why is a background color needed?
WebP may contain transparency, but JPEG cannot. The selected color fills transparent and partly transparent areas before encoding.
Will this improve the quality of a WebP?
No. It changes the encoding format and may introduce additional JPEG loss. It does not recover detail missing from the source.
Can I convert animated WebP?
Animated image conversion is not supported in this MVP. Use a still WebP image.
